Dzogchen — The Great Perfection

The highest and most direct teaching in the Nyingma tradition

What is Dzogchen?

Dzogchen (Great Perfection), also known as Atiyoga or Mahasandhi, is the highest and most direct teaching in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The term Dzogchen means "Great Perfection" or "Great Completeness," referring to the primordially pure and spontaneously present nature of mind.

Two Fundamental Aspects

The essence of Dzogchen rests on two fundamental aspects:

Ka dag

Primordial purity

The empty, luminous nature of mind, free from the very beginning.

Lhun grub

Spontaneous presence

The natural, effortless manifestation of wisdom qualities.

Dzogchen is not merely a philosophy or a set of practices — it is the direct recognition of rigpa, the innate awareness that is the true nature of all beings. Through the guidance of a qualified master, practitioners are introduced to this awareness and learn to rest in it naturally, without fabrication or effort.
